Wonderfully Made

God's Truth . . .

Though we live in a broken world with sickness and pain, God is STILL our Creator.  He formed your every detail for His delight and glory!  When disease and heartache creep in, when the outside world sees us (or our loved one) as something less-than-perfect, we can remember the truth that God finds joy in seeing each and everyone of us because He designed us!  That includes those with special-needs.

I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.[a]

Wonderful are your works;
    my soul knows it very well.

There is a Big Need . . .

In our early days, Mike and I would take turns with Ellie Kate at church so that we could each still experience worship, community and the Word.  With her seizures, crying spells and inability to eat by mouth, we couldn't just leave our Princess in the nursery.  You see, this is what many families like us do.  Some don't even get to go to church at all because no one is qualified, or no one will volunteer, to watch their child during church. Families are split and divided because of the lack of activities for these extra special children.

In my opinion, the Church as a whole is failing the special-needs community by not offering programs for these individuals and for their families.  These precious people hurt so much, being ignored in society, and even being ignored by the Church.  How sad it is that we fail so miserably at being Christ's hands and feet to those who may look and act differently!!

A New Ministry is Born . . .

Providentially, our church (Bridgeway Church) is full of many medically-trained individuals, most of whom have very tender hearts.   What a blessing these individuals have been to us!  Some of our friends, who "happened" to be trained therapists, offered to take turns watching Ellie during the service so that Mike and I could attend together, side-by-side. Absolutely Incredible.

After a year of those sweet volunteers taking their church time to love on Ellie, God laid it on the heart of our church's leadership to start a ministry to special-needs children. We saw a glimpse of God's heart for these individuals who were "fearfully and wonderfully made".  I had the absolute privilege to work with a few precious women on staff at Bridgeway to get the Wonderfully Made ministry up and running.

Each week children are greeted into this room. We have physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech pathologists, doctors, counselors, special education teachers, and others who serve in the Wonderfully Made room. Needless to say, the children are VERY well-cared-for and loved.  Each child is prayed over in specific ways. They are allowed to participate through a schedule and curriculum tailored just for their needs. God's Word does NOT return void in these precious little lives!
